Rick Santorum in Iowa: Faithful in the Fight for Our Values Posted: 07 Mar 2011 06:34 PM PST Former Rick Santorum (R-PA) was the last prospective presidential candidate to speak at the 11th Annual Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition Spring Event at Point of Grace Church in Waukee, IA. Talked about his grandfather who came to America from Italy to pursue prosperity and freedom, "to do what God has called us to do." He said America is about an idea, "it has to be about shared values otherwise what is it." He said we can't call a truce on our values. He said "once you stick your neck out on social issues" you are label. He cited times not only did he work on prolife issues, but also worked on reforming entitlement programs and working on national security issues. Talking about our threats he said he are not at war with terror, but we are at war with jihadists. He has worked toward helping bring freedom to Iran and he criticized President Obama for standing with the mullahs instead of the people of Iran. He said he was labeled "ultra" (conservative) because he stood for our values, standing up for life, fighting against the partial-birth abortion law. He said for the first time since Roe v. Wade opinion toward abortion began to change as a result of that battle. When this bill was passed it was the first time any abortion was restricted and Congress for the first time regarding abortion that the Supreme Court was wrong. He promised to talk about the Born Alive Protection Act (Santorum's bill) which was duplicated in numerous state legislatures. He will challenge President Obama on why he doesn't support it. "There was only one person who stood up on any floor of a State Senate to oppose this bill and he currently the President of the United States." Santorum asked, "now who is the extremist on abortion." He challenged the entitlement mentality and said that what we are doing to our nation is a moral issue. He said liberals believe that "Americans love their entitlements" and that they once we get hooked on them we won't want to give them up. He said one lesson that he has learned through his wars in the Senate is that if you are faithful and do your part, God will be faithful to us.. Share and Enjoy: |
Tim Pawlenty in Iowa: Conservative in a Blue State Posted: 07 Mar 2011 06:13 PM PST Former Governor Tim Pawlenty (R-MN) spoke at the 11th Annual Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition at Point of Grace Church in Waukee, IA. "Well thanks a lot (for the applause), or as President Obama would say, 'you're welcome.'" Nice opening line by Governor Palwenty. He thanked Steve Scheffler and then also thanked "Chuck." Oops… I believe he was referring to Chuck Hurley of The FAMiLY Leader (he acknowledged his mistake later) and it seemed like he shared similar illustrations from his speech for their Presidential Lecture series. He cited 2 Chronicles 7:14 – "We need to be a country that turns toward God, not a country that turns away from God." We need to remember that our we are endowed by our Creator, that he gives us rights, not Congress… etc. He said this is acknowledged by our Declaration of Independence and numerous state constitutions. The Constitution was designed "to protect people of faith from government, not government from people of faith." He said our debt matters – "just because we followed Greece in democracy doesn't mean we need to follow them in bankruptcy." He challenged the cultural mindset of DC – he said life does begin at conception, marriage should be between a man and a woman. He said government isn't for the elites, it is for the people and by the people.. He said we need leaders who can not only talk the talk, but walk the walk. He shared how he cut taxes, cut spending, introduced tort reform, reformed teacher pay, etc. in a Democratic state. He set a single season veto record, and received an A from the Cato Institute. He said we can bring conservative principles to our nation, but that it won't be easy. "This isn't about easy, it is about rolling up our sleeves and get the job down." Share and Enjoy: |
Buddy Roemer in Iowa: I Declare My Independence (Against Special Interests) Posted: 07 Mar 2011 05:53 PM PST Former Governor Buddy Roemer (R-LA) spoke at the 11th Annual Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition Spring Event at Point of Grace Church in Waukee, IA. He said he is the only candidate who was a Congressman and Governor. He is pro-life. He was a conservative Democrat in Congress, led the bullwevils in Congress and worked with President Ronald Reagan. He talked about bringing right to work to Louisiana and bringing education reform by testing teachers and paying those who did well 30% more. He changed parties while in Baton Rogue. He talked about losing a Governor's primary race to David Duke (and another gentleman)… "we lost it by a whisker, and they both went to the penitentiary." He's been involved in starting banks and small banking since. "Washington isn't about leadership. Washington isn't about the people. Washington is about power and money… The nation is suffering and Washington is a boon town." He said the system is institutionally corrupt, and that people of faith need to stand up to the corruption. He wants to be independent (of special interests). He has committed that he will take no more than $100 from any donor, he would take no PAC money, or corporate money (he was the only member of Congress not to take PAC money). He said the only way we can change things in Washington is if the President is free. He said he wants us to be free to pursue energy independence and be free from the Middle East. He said he will end subsidies – ethanol and oil. He said "with oil being $106/barrel what do they need with subsidies?" "I declare my independence." Share and Enjoy: |
Newt Gingrich in Iowa: Truth Is the Lynchpin Posted: 07 Mar 2011 05:39 PM PST The former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich spoke at the 11th Annual Spring Event at the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition at Point of Grace Church in Waukee, IA. He said it is a good time to start a dialogue about America's future. He said we are at a crossroads that we can not hide from. One of the central issues is "what kind of country to we want to leave our children and grandchildren." One turning point for Gingrich was the 9th Circuit Court's decision that saying "One Nation Under God" in the pledge was unconstitutional. He said even though Republicans have held the White House for 50% more time since 1952 we are still seeing the decline of our culture. He said we must stand on truth, and that is foundational. What are these truths. We are created by God and endowed by our Creator certain inalienable rights. God gives us our rights, not Government. "We should all base our principles on a fundamental source of morality." There should be no distinction between social conservatives and economic conservatives because of that. He gave Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) for his amendment defunding Planned Parenthood. He said we should bring back the Mexico City Policy, conscience protection, etc. He also said that we should advocate that Israel to have their capital as Jerusalem. He called us back to a vision of American exceptionalism. He received an enthusiastic applause when he was done. Share and Enjoy: |
Herman Cain in Iowa: We Need An Empowerment Society, Not an Entitlement Society Posted: 07 Mar 2011 05:25 PM PST The former Godfather's Pizza CEO and current radio host, Herman Cain, was the first to speak at the 11th Annual Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition Spring Event at Point of Grace Church in Waukee, IA. He opened that American dream is under attack, but that the good news is that we are fighting back. He shared three of his guiding principles:
To the liberals he said, "the United States of America will not become the United States of Europe." Not on our watch. Very powerful message and he received enthusiastic applause. Share and Enjoy: |
