Newt Gingrich Addresses Conservative Principles PAC In Iowa Posted: 26 Mar 2011 08:25 PM PDT Former Speaker Of The House Newt Gingrich gave a speech at Congressman Steve King's Conservative Principles PAC in Des Moines, IA. He wasted no time in attacking "Obamacare", maintaining that it was "critical" that it gets stopped this year. He asserted that the Federal bureaucracy was ill equipped to administrate the nation's health care. He said that there were three important subjects to address: Values, the economy, and national security. He briefly discussed American exceptionalism, and emphasized the importance of the words "truths" and "creator" in the Declaration of Independence. Shifting to the economy, he said we need to create wealth here rather than redistribute it. He said the Obama Administration's idea was to borrow money from China and buy from Brazil, exactly the opposite of what is needed. Acknowledging that we need to repeal Obamacare, he suggested that we could repeal Obamacare by repealing Obama. He said we've got to stop spending and reduce taxes, citing the tax cuts that were made during his tenure as Speaker. Gingrich spent some time explaining his views on Libya, admitting that his remarks had seemed contradictory. But he said that those remarks were responses to Obama's position which was rapidly changing. He said that once we commit to military action it should be done "quickly" and "decisively". He said that we should be honest about the fact that it was radical Islam that was "trying to kill us". He referred to the United Nations as a "fundamentally corrupt" organization and was critical of the Obama Administration for consulting with them (the U.N.) with respect to the military action in Libya but failing to consult with the United States Congress. Gingrich suggested a number of important actions that could be accomplished through simply using a presidential executive order. Among those were the abolition of Czars, the elimination of abortion funding by the government anywhere in the world, and ensuring that no one would be forced to participate in any way with abortion against his or her conscience. He ended his speech by saying "We can turn (things) around with remarkable speed if we have courage". Share and Enjoy: |
Jim DeMint in Des Moines: Do We Have the Courage to Live Free? Posted: 26 Mar 2011 05:58 PM PDT Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) spoke after a great red meat (no really, it was steak) dinner at a banquet at the end of Congressman Steve King's Conservative Principles PAC Conference. The election of 2012, DeMint said, "may be our last chance" in order to stop our current downward slide. He emphasized that we need to get it right. The most important question that we have to ask DeMint noted is "do we have the courage to live free?" Every decision we make, he said, will be based on how we answer that question. "The noble path forward is a hard one" since it means making tough fiscal choices and truly limited government. He said the keys to living free are religious liberty and free enterprise. They allow us to have the courage to live free, he said the enable people of character. He said the welfare state has led to the rise of unwed mothers and an entitlement mentality. He said we have seen religious freedom scrubbed and free enterprise giving ground to more regulation. People had lost courage to live free. He said America is waking up. He noted that in last election that people didn't join the Republican Party, it is that Republican Party joined them. He said there are only a few things the federal government must do. He said Congress has not in his time ever voted to cut anything, but he said they need to learn to let go of certain things and make cuts needed.
"Freedom will work if we let it." About choosing candidates – "We must select the right candidate to run in 2012. We need a President who will effectively defend our country and run our government effectively. He is not elected to run our families." The President needs to embrace a limited government. What do the candidates say about spending cuts? What are they advocating in terms of the budget? What are they saying about the debates in Congress, where do they stand on Libya. "Do they have the courage to live free." "They only thing that can defeat America is apathy from its citizens." Share and Enjoy: |
Steve King: Strategy to Defund Obamacare Posted: 26 Mar 2011 05:30 PM PDT Congressman Steve King (R-IA) during his Conservative Principles PAC conference said wanted to make the strategy clear behind defunding Obamacare. With the continuing resolution, he said that if the House holds it ground and stands up to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and President Barack Obama they can have their way on Obamacare. They have to shut down the government to keep Obamacare in, and since a recent Rasmussen Poll said 62% of Americans want to see it repealed. They would have to explain that – why they would shut the government down for a "temper tantrum" to keep Obamacare funding in. He said liberals point to the government shutdown in 1995 where the Legislature lost. King's responded by saying, "One data point in history does not an axiom make." Share and Enjoy: |
John Bolton in Des Moines Swats President Obama’s Middle East Policy as “Chaotic.” Posted: 26 Mar 2011 02:42 PM PDT Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton spoke at Congressman Steve King's Conservative Principles PAC Conference in Des Moines, IA. "National security should be an important in 2012." He said that our national security and foreign policy should be a tangible issues for voters in 2012 as it impact our independence, freedom, our peace and security. Blasting Obama he said he wasn't qualified to be president when he was elected and he noted that he still isn't elected. He said he said national security "doesn't get him up in the morning." He said he doesn't see the world as a very threatening place." He notes that Obama is an example of multilateralism at its fullest. He wants to cede sovereignty over to international agencies, "he is fascinated by international law." He said "legitimacy for the United States comes from ourselves." Bolton notes that the U.S. Constitution is our highest authority, not an international body like the U.N. Security Council. He said that President Obama is our first "post-American" President and doesn't understand American exceptionalism. "If everybody is exceptional, nobody is." "Protection for the United States will not be found in the U.N. Security Council," Bolton said in critiquing multilateralism. He said we can best defend ourselves by making sure our defense is adequately funded. He's concerned by cuts that the Obama Administration is making, and pointed out that he could find numerous domestic programs to cut to find money for defense. Criticizing Obama's Libya policy, Bolton said he is concerned that if Mummar Gaddafi is not removed that he could return to international terrorism. He said that if Obama acted earlier the rebels could have possibly removed him by now. He said the rest of his Middle East policy is "chaotic." He was confused in Egypt, Bolton said, and has no tangible strategy for Iran. He said that instability in the Middle East impacts peace in Israel. He said we need to have a sustained discussion about the failure of Obama's foreign policy as we approach 2012. Share and Enjoy: |
Herman Cain in Des Moines Says We Are a Nation of Crises Posted: 26 Mar 2011 01:42 PM PDT Former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain spoke at Congressman Steve King's Conservative Principles PAC in Des Moines, IA. He started off with an appeal to our founding documents. "We don't need to rewrite the Declaration of Independence, we don't need to rewrite the Constitution. We need to enforce the constitution." Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, are what conservatives want to protect. He said that liberals want to take away American’s liberties by over regulation, over taxation. He said "we are an exceptional nation, and we want to keep it that way." Cain said are a nation of crises – we have a moral crisis, a national security crisis, we have an economic crisis, we have an entitlement spending crisis…. people want to say we have a spending crisis, but it is much bigger than that. He said we have an energy crisis – "energy independence can happen if we get government out of the way." He noted we have an immigration crisis – we don't need another pathway to citizenship. "We need to empower the states to do what the federal government won't do." The seventh crisis he said is a deficiency of leadership,. He said "leadership is about solving problems, not kicking the problems down the road." "We need new leadership in 2012, that's why I'm here." Applause. "I didn't say I'm running, I just said that is why I'm here." Regarding leadership he said "if we focus on the right problems, do it the right way, with the right people" that things can turn around. He said that the audience needs to stay informed – that's why we are here. "Stupid people are running our country." "Notice I'm not trying to be politically correct, I just want to be correct." He talked about how people want to label him, so he thought he'd beat them to it… he labels himself an "American Black Conservative – an ABC." He said he has been called a racist for criticizing Obama citing how liberals have devolved in their discourse. He also said that they need to stay inspired, he said his grandchildren inspire him which is why he is considering running for President. "The Founding Fathers did their jobs." Cain noted, "We need to be the defending fathers." Share and Enjoy: |
Michele Bachmann Talks Numbers in Des Moines Posted: 26 Mar 2011 11:57 AM PDT Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) spoke at Congressman Steve King's (R-IA) Conservative Principles PAC Conference in Des Moines. She said she wanted to share some numbers with the audience. She first hammered on the debt. $107 Trillion, she noted that much of this debt is owned by China. Referring to China's President Hu, she said, "Hu is your Daddy?" 35% corporate tax rate – one of the highest in the world Almost 4 million words is in the tax code. She said she supports a fair tax or a flat tax. "Our tax code is a weapon of mass destruction." She noted that $1.83/gallon was the price of gas before President Barack Obama took office… she said we need to pursue our domestic resources. 19 of 20 of major metropolitan market where the real estate value has gone down. 129/2000 – miles of our southern border which is actually secure. 6,000 pages for the current health care reform bill. Over 1000 waivers given… "I guess not everyone is equal under the law when it comes to Obamacare." $105 Billion – money hidden in plain sight in order to implement Obamacare before it was passed. She said that Congressman King and she are committed to not pass one more spending bill until President Obama agrees to give this money back. She said that President Obama is making the wrong calls and is thankful that Republicans, like Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is standing up to course correct. With our debt the way it is she said that we can see our future in Greece if we don't deal with it. "We've seen how this movie ends, and it isn't a pretty picture." She said the Constitution provides the answers that citizens can make choices for themselves and noted earlier in her speech that she sponsored the "Light Bulb Freedom Act." She said that Americans can choose their own car and health care. She also said that she disagrees with those who say they want a truce on social issues. She said, "social conservatism is fiscal conservatism." She is confident in 2012 because she has seen that Americans "has decided we are going to take our country back" and that they are in for 2012. She asked the crowd, "Iowa are you in for 2012?" She was answered by a standing ovation. Share and Enjoy: |
US Soldier Guilty of Murdering Afghan Unarmed Civilians Posted: 26 Mar 2011 08:32 AM PDT I received quite a bit of criticism for publishing a post in September 2010 entitled: 12 American Soldiers Accused of Killing Afghan Civilians for Sport. Even though I made it clear in the article that it was only accusations at this point I was told by commenters that it was just allegations and I shouldn’t even discuss it until after trial and the truth is known. It turns out that for at least one soldier, the allegations panned out, and he plead guilty to killing civilians for no reason. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison, pretty light for taking 3 lives, but in a plea deal he is set to testify against 4 others who could face the death penalty. From the news report:
As I stated in my original article, we are often told that we are hated for our freedom. Surely we are not hated for killing civilians for sport, for sending unmanned drones into sovereign countries, killing yet more civilians, for interfering with the internal politics of sovereign nations, for starting a third undeclared war against a Muslim nation, for having troops on their holy lands, for propping up western friendly dictators who commit oppression and human rights abuses against their own people. If there is any doubt why we are hated by some in the Middle East, here are pictures published by German news Der Spiegel of the “kill team” posing with several of the civilians they murdered. Warning, the photos are graphic, which is why I linked to them rather than place them on this page. Share and Enjoy: |
